Inked stuff for tomemon day (9/26) and some random doison for bonus.

No but watch the video. I beg you.

I’m a bit disappointed though it is not a real thing

So I was searching if there’s anyone uploading cheer squad song in Oofuri’s match because they’re so catchy.

I remember one of them titled Lupin and I searched for it on Youtube and IT’S REALLY LUPIN THEME SONG.

I love this anime so much.

Cheer songs for japanese cheer squads are mostly theme songs from famous shows or signature songs, i remember there’s one that’s a cm song too

Just a little bit more before the ending of this arc, I’m already getting emotional because wow I love this arc a lot for so many reasons. Here’s Orienteering Arc episode 73

Season 18 Episode 73 (eng subs)

Namban (南蛮 literal: Western Europe, especially Spain and…

First of all, GREAT WORKS! <3 <3 Thanks for translating and subbing!!!

I really surprised about how that… scratches in Takamaru’s knees are made. I thought it’s because he kneel a lot when cutting someone’s hair—-OH GOD HE ACTUALLY SHAVE HIS KNEES???! W-What’s the razor technique actually, if I may ask? ;;A;;

Okay. I tried googling hairdresser training during Muromachi but there wasn’t much info about that so I’ll just write what I found out. Shaving and hairdressing only started during the Muromachi period, when men started to wear the sakayaki fashion (where the front part of their heads are shaved and they wear toge at the back, imagine takamaru’s dad’s hair), but at that time razors were very expensive and not many people had a chance to use it so, they had to pull out the hair to make the sakayaki fashion. The first person who is said to have been shaved by a razor was Oda Nobunaga. However when Sengoku period rolled around, hair and beards were a sign of strength and manliness, so people didn’t actually go shave that much, but style their hair. At this time however, razors have become more common, and their skills have improved. At this time, it was mostly men (most of them wealthy) that would go shave beards and wear moustaches and cut their hair. Women didn’t go cut their hair or style them until much later, around the Edo period, and even then their stylists were women. Hairdresser service in the Muromachi period was really expensive and exclusive to certain people, like warlords and rich people.
I guess takamaru practices mostly to shave faces and sakayaki. Also the shaving set looks like a primitive set of these i guess it was rlly difficult to use

Genderbent nintama. Also some tasogaredoki. Quick doodles.

The final episode of Orienteering arc!

Season 18 Episode 74 (eng subs)

Samo Arinan-san’s first appearance was during the sonodamura arc, and the second movie. The two foot soldiers were also around during the sonodamura arc and the second movie, their similar faces are not the staff being lazy, they do have the same face, and only slightly different hair.

The work absence without permission that Son-chan was talking about is the absences he’s made from work to go challenge Doi-sensei. In the manga he went to challenge Doi-sensei in the arc itself, but in the anime, that part was animated outside of the arc. The Tasogaredoki (or rather the whole professional ninja work system in nintama itself) functions just like any other office system, they have salary cuts or promotions, work leave permissions, retirements, etc etc.

There’s going to be a ton of clothing and Portuguese fashion references, I don’t know very much about except what the anime, manga and google tell me so please bear with me a bit.

Jiban (ジュバン) is the button-up shirts that the foot soldiers and the nintama are wearing. It apparently comes from the word jibão  means undershirt in Portuguese, and well I guess the look that the foot soldiers were showing is the trend of collars of the jiban showing.

Karsan (カルサン) are hakama fashioned, loose pants that are fluffed up, as worn by the Portuguese. It comes from the word calção which means shorts in Portuguese.

Kapa (カパ) are mantles or cloaks or basically anything that covers something, the concept goes from blankets to caps. The kapa that son-chan is wearing is a short mantle that is a necessity in formal occasion in Spain. It’s from the Portuguese word, capa which means cover. The word is borrowed to Japanese to become 合羽 (kappa) which means raincoat.

Coincidentally, kappa is also a Japanese river ghost. The one Fushikizou was imagining.

bakemono no jutsu (妖者の術) is actually not the ghost technique (it has a different kanji 化け物) but is a technique that fools the enemy by putting on different clothes or appearances. Just as Chouji has explained.

shinobi tabi (忍び足袋)are ninja socks. They wear these as shoes, and it’s layered with cotton at the bottom to eliminate noise and also have other inventions.

Jinbei’s hair is from Takamaru’s doings from the Sonodamura arc. Takamaru did not fix his hair since then.

Thank you bakpaocoklat for the raws and proof reading!

I really like this arc a lot it forever is in a special place in my heart. Everytime I watch it I always cry a little bit at the ending, and just wow these boys are precious. Thank you for following these subs, and I’m sorry if I made any mistakes or anything. It will be a while before I can pick up any arc to sub, but I prolly would be able to sub solo episodes, so if there’s anyone who would like an episode to sub or anything, just ask. I really love nintama and I hope you guys would enjoy them too /wipes tear

Just a little bit more before the ending of this arc, I’m already getting emotional because wow I love this arc a lot for so many reasons. Here’s Orienteering Arc episode 73

Season 18 Episode 73 (eng subs)

Namban (南蛮 literal: Western Europe, especially Spain and Portugal, and their colonies, including Indonesia, Malayan Islands and other South East Asian countries). I translate it as Portuguese exclusively for nintama because during the Warring States’ Period the most common and earliest traders to come to Japan were the Portuguese, followed by the Spanish and then the Dutch. The fashion and the borrowed foreign words are all from Portugal as well, so I’m keeping it to this unless there are other better words to use.

Tasogare Jinbei (appearance at the sonodamura arc and the second anime movie) is the castle lord of Tasogare castle. Tasogaredoki means ‘dusk’ in Japanese. How they had that little fighting contest during sunset had always strike me as fitting. Jinbei really likes wars, and his reputation is even worse than the Dokutake Castle lord, Kino Kojirou Taketaka-sama and the amount of people wanting to assassinate him is even more than the Headmaster. Because of the Castle’s nature to like wars, it’s hypothesized that he’s really wealthy, because wars cost a lot.

Hikoshiro and Shouchan was saved by Zatto-san and his subordinate (if I’m not mistaken it was Kousaka-san) from being shot by Dokutake when they were the bait for a strategy that Ninjutsu Gakuen planned. If I remember this correctly this was during the sonodamura arc manga version, (in the anime it was Rantarou and Sanjirou, and that scene was made to be outside of the Sonodamura arc, and part of the Oomagatoki Castle arc).

Maku no Sahou (幕の作法 literal: Curtain Etiquette) is just like what Senzo explained.

Takamaru is the son of a famous hairdresser who were actually of ninja origin but they forgot. To practice razor techniques, he would shave his knees, thus leaving those scars. Also, I kept Ahohachirou at the original pronunciation (it means stupid Hachirou) because I wanted people to recognize how the upper years nintama have a habit of playing around with Ayabe’s name when they’re angry at him.

This wasn’t shown in detail in the anime, but in the manga they actually showed how the pontoon bridge was so much grander than a regular pontoon bridge, such that it’s not just simply planks of wood on little boats, there were actually bamboo screens stacked on them, and then layered with straw mats, giving it a rich feel. It was highly unlikely that it’s for normal people and purposes.

Fuuryuu de toriiru jutsu (風流で取り入る術 literal technique of getting on your good side with refinement) is basically a technique of wanting to get along with people or sucking up to them to make them do what you want by knowing the other person’s hobbies and interests, wooing them.

The rankings in Tasogaredoki ninja army is basically kumigashira (team leader)>kogashira(small team leader, there’s a lot teams, the one that is usually with Zatto-san is Yamamoto-san)>and the rest of the subordinates

The one that Son-chan is complaining to is his small team leader, Yamamoto-san.

Also for people who are wondering about what’s the difference between orienteering so far and what has just changed? Orienteering are actually competitions where you have to travel through a course and go through checkpoints, the order of the checkpoints are not important, but you’d have to go through all of them before you can reach the last point, the goal. This means that the nintamas that have all checked into the 4th point and gathered there all have different checkpoints that they haven’t checked into yet, but because of this sudden new rule that the Headmaster just implemented, everyone is now on level playing ground. It doesn’t matter that you have completed most or none of the checkpoints, as long as you reach the goal first, you’re the winner.

This was really cute and fun. Thank you bakpaocoklat for the raws and proofread!

Just a bit more left. I really enjoyed myself.

Continuing the spree today here’s Season 18’s episode 72

Season 18 episode 72 (eng subs)

The three sickness of ninja (忍者の三病), if I’m not mistaken is indecisiveness(優柔), fear(恐怖) and weakness to sexual desires(色気に弱い).

The line that Zatto-san said about ‘not to ponder too long in thought’ (思案過ごすべからず) is the warning for the indecisive sickness. The warnings are known generally as 忍者の三病のいましめ (the warnings concerning the three sickness of ninja).

The rule ‘you can’t beat up Raizou while he’s puzzled’ (迷っている雷蔵をぼこぼこにしてはいけない) sounds new to me. I can assure you that this rule sounds like something Saburou would whip up (Raizou often acts together with Saburou so enemies don’t notice this weakness). Zatto-san is the first person who actually turned this weakness against him.

'Hyoutou' (鏢刀 literal: blade darts) is just like what Kema has explained, it's a type of shuriken that is made to be an all out blade, and it's Saburou's primary weapon of choice, other than his disguises. Just like what Zatto-san has described, the weapon is quite dangerous, and since it's all sharp blades, handling it carelessly would make you get cut. Notice how one of the 3 ikemen subordinates (since the details aren't really clear in the anime i'm guessing it was Shiira-kun) caught it with his fingers, and Zatto-san blocked it with his stick. I'm guessing hyoutou was the weapon Saburou uses in martial arts competition (budou taikai).

Saburou rarely loses, he won the budou taikai once afterall, which is why Tomomi says something about the moment to be the fall of a legend.

I had a hard time trying to translate hourokuhiya (焙烙火矢 it’s literally cooking pot fire arrow) but I translate it to be grenade (eventhough there’s tons of other types of grenades but we’ll get to that when we do). Hourokuhiya are Senzo’s preferred weapon of choice, but Heisuke knows how to use it too (he’s the representative Chairman for the Gunpowder Committee afterall). Senzo makes his own explosions which explains why he has a giant hourokuhiya (but does not explain where he had them).

Zatto-san is pretty loved by his subordinates.

Sonchan’s full name is Moroizumi Sonnamon, (所詮尊奈門) it’s read in kunyomi (japanese reading), but when read in onyomi (chinese reading, based on sound), it’s shosen sonnamon which roughly translates ‘It’s like that, afterall’

This episode made me feel like I’m in the wrong anime everytime I watch it. It has a bit of volleyball, some football, it’s like I suddenly stepped into a sports anime lmao. Nevertheless it was super fun. Thank you bakpaocoklat for the raws and proof reading. It’s not that far to the end now!
